Australia is home to many Universities and Institutes, both private and public that are dedicated to the benefits of student’s preferred academic pathways. If you are in year 11, a Graduate or even someone looking to change your career path after working in your industry for 20 years! In Australia, there are plenty of study options.

Consider the Level of Study that is right for you

There are ten levels of study in Australia according to the AQF. These include the following

  1.  Certificate 1
  2.  Certificate 2
  3. Certificate 3
  4. Certificate 4
  5. Diploma
  6. Advanced Diploma
  7. Bachelor Degree
  8. Bachelor Honors Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma
  9. Master’s Degree
  10. Doctoral Degree

While there are plenty of levels of study in Australia, it is important to broaden your search first. Think of which fields you can see yourself working in for the rest of your life. Then start to look into the subfields to decide what you can possibly study to start a pathway. Remember, it is a long process. Most students end up studying for 10 years while some can get away with only 3.

Consider your career path

Before starting your course search it is important to have an idea of a career path you want to pursue. The first step is to choose a field that interests you, for example, construction or marketing. You can also use a search engine tool to find courses that might interest you. To start this process, ask yourself what interest you the most, what are you good at and what do you enjoy. It is important to also bear in mind that over the years of your study, your interests might change. That is why it is wise to pick a broader field; there is plenty of time to specialize. As Australia is one of the fastest developing countries in the world there are various jobs in multiple industries available. Here is a list of top careers you can choose to thrive on in Australia:

Search for all your options

After picking one or two study areas, you can start to focus on the Australian courses available in the field you wish to study. At this stage, you can look at a broad number of study options. You can also opt for a combined package. For example, you can enroll in Certificate 4 and Diploma. Or you can also look at options of Diploma leading to Bachelors. This gives you a wide range of options with flexibility, whereupon you can change career paths if necessary.  Based on the career options provided, you can choose a number of courses to fit the ideology you might have in your head. Medical Science

  1. Bachelor of Medicine

  1. Diploma of Engineering Technology

Computer and IT

  1. Bachelor of Information Technology
  2. Master of Cyber Security
  3. Become a Cyber Security Specialist

Social Work

  1. Certificate 4 in Youth Work
  2. Diploma of Community Services, or Diploma of Counseling
  3. Become a Campus Counselor in a school or college


  1. Certificate 3 & 4 in cookery
  2. Diploma in Hospitality Management
  3. Work as a head chef

Law Practices

  1. Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice
  2. Graduate Diploma in Migration Law
  3. Become a Migration Lawyer


  1. Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Construction Management
  2. Become a Site Supervisor

Consider your location

Along with your choice of career path, it is also important to get enough information on where you are going to be living for a good period of time.
